That time of year!

This year Derrek is finally able to play tackle football and it is intense, but he loves it. He is on the Sky View Bobcats and he got his favorite jersey number "4" We travel anywhere from Logan to Kaysville with this football team and it has actually been quite enjoyable. He plays wide reciever most of the time and really enjoys that position. He and 4 other players are the only ones of 23 kids that have not played tackle football yet so he has lots to prove to his coach. We didn't want him to play until he was able to be a little more aggressive in flag football and gain some skills doing that before going out and putting on "gear" and getting slammed. They practice everyday for two hours then they have games on Saturdays so right now our life is football, but it is fun.

This is the first play of his first real game.(They are playing Roy who they beat 40-o) He was soo nervous and I think his dad was just as nervous. He paced the lines and could not sit still. I think he really enjoys watching his son play. Derrek is not overly aggressive in his playing yet, but he gets a littel better with each practice and each game. This last weekend he made his first touch down and was quite proud of himself.

This picture is especially awesome. The little #18 standing next to Derrek (#4) is Tanner Remund. He is the son of Billy Chris, a really good friend that Drew grew up with, who died about 5 years ago. Drew and Billy Chris grew up playing football together (in Heber) and it is quite ironic that their 2 sons would end up in Logan on the same football team. So we thought this picture of the two of them standing next to each other was really special. Drew can't help but watch Tanner, he says that some of his mannerisms are so much like his dads that he just sees Billy Chris on the field.

Nice work Derrek! It is fun to get football going, reminding us that fall is going to eventually come. I love this time of year.
